Girard earns first league victory
Liberty's Ali House pitched a perfect game while Mooney and Ursuline won.
GIRARD -- Kassie Simeon pitched a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts and four walks as Girard upended LaBrae 3-0 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference softball game on Tuesday.
Sarah Britt singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Indians (5-8, 1-3).
Lindsey Higgins struck out eight and walked one for LaBrae (5-5, 3-2).
Liberty 12, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD -- Freshman Ali House (3-4) pitched a six-inning perfect game and struck out eight.
Senior Michelle Dykes had a triple, a double and a single for two RBIs and sophomore Kacey Kurtz had two hits and two RBIs for the Leopards (3-7, 3-4).
In addition, junior Katie Greaf and sophomore Melissa Dykes both had two hits and an RBI.
House also had a pair of hits at the plate.
Lakeview 8, Hubbard 2
CORTLAND -- Chelsea Butler tripled in two runs as the Bulldogs (9-1, 5-0 TAC) maintained a one-game lead in the league standings over Newton Falls.
Jen Baker had three hits while Jessica Downs, Brittany Massacci and Brigitte Morvay had two apiece.
Kailynn Cerny (4-0) scattered four hits to get the pitching win.
For Hubbard (11-4, 6-2), Meagan Schultz homered.
Mooney 9, Warren JFK 0
WARREN -- Freshman Chrissy Porter (10-2) struck out 14 in a three-hitter against previously unbeaten JFK.
Senior DiAndra Dibacco had a triple, a double and three RBIs for Mooney (14-3, 3-0 Steel Valley Conference).
Also for the Cards, Mara Palombaro had two hits and two RBIs, Porter had a double and two singles and Kelcie Herberger, a sophomore, had three hits and scored three times.
Angela Mills had a double and single to lead JFK (10-1, 2-1 SVC), whose pitcher, Rachel Pico, struck out 10 but gave up 14 hits.
Ursuline 2, Struthers 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior Natalie Palermo's bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning drove in Casey Lower and Kasey Foley for the win at Rock Ridge.
Lower and Foley, both freshmen, led off the inning with singles. Palermo had two of the five hits for Ursuline (10-3).
Nikka Bonamase also had a single for the winners.
Lower, a freshman, had five strikeouts and one walk in a two-hitter off the bats of Dominique Martino (single) and Samantha Ditman (double). The hits put Struthers runners on second and third in the top of the fifth with no outs, but the Wildcats were stranded.
Mathews 10, Bristol 0
VIENNA -- Junior Alli Stein (4-1) had 12 strikeouts and one walk in pitching a six-inning no-hitter for Mathews (10-2, 4-1 Northeast Athletic Conference).
Stein and Alyssa DeJean had two RBIs for the Mustangs, who had their eight-game winning streak snapped Monday against Southington.
Bristol pitcher Heather Goetz had six strikeouts and seven walks.
