Wheland keys Chaney past Wilson; Finn powers Ursuline victory



Canfield, Campbell and Struthers emerged with wins.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shawn Wheland's three hits included a triple, and he drove in three runs Monday, as Chaney defeated Woodrow Wilson, 17-9, in a Steel Valley Conference baseball game.
Pat Allen and Joe Morales had two hits each for the Cowboys (2-13, 1-3 SVC). Allen and winning pitcher Dustin Guyer each drove in three runs, while Francisco Morales had two RBIs. Guyer struck out 12.
For Wilson, Victor Carderelli had two hits and two RBIs.
Ursuline 13, Warren Harding 8
WARREN -- Todd Finn had a two-run homer, two doubles, one single and four RBIs to lead Ursuline's 16-hit attack.
Mick McGahagan added a three-run homer and an RBI single while Joe Wielbruda hit a triple, two singles and one RBI for the Irish (10-3). Robert Switka got the win in relief.
For Harding (7-5), Dan Popadak went 5-for-5 on four singles and a double. Will Sekula added three singles and three RBIs while Tom Popadak had a double, single and two RBIs.
Canfield 10, Salem 1
CANFIELD -- Salem held the lead 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Cardinals scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning and five more in the second.
Drew Turocy and John Pitzulo each hit two doubles for the Cardinals (15-1, 6-0 Metro Athletic Conference). Scott Harmon (1-0) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
Zack O'Brien hit a double and single for the Quakers (7-8, 2-5).
Campbell 10, Niles 8
CAMPBELL -- Raul Pizzaro hit two singles and drove in two runs as Campbell (4-4, 2-2 MAC) sent 13 batters to the plate to score nine runs in the fifth inning. Dan Sacui hit a two-run homer plus two singles to drive in another run.
Behind 10-3, the Red Dragons (5-5, 1-3) batted around in the top of the seventh inning to score five runs. Billy Eddy's double drove in two runs.
Mike Kelly, Stuart Mientkiewicz and Eddy each had two hits for the Red Dragons.
Struthers 17, Howland 13
STRUTHERS -- L.J. Schromfsky had a triple, two doubles and two RBIs while Mike Barone contributed a triple, three singles and two RBIs to lead Struthers.
Ryan Stanko added a two-run homer and one-run single. Mike Vitucci had a double, three singles and one RBI. Dennis Walton hit a double, two singles and one RBI to pace the Wildcats (8-6, 2-3 MAC).
For Howland, T.J Stoian had a solo homer, double, single and four RBIs. Zack Byler had two doubles, a single and four RBIs while Matt Preston added a double, single and one RBI.
East Palestine 11, Columbiana 2
COLUMBIANA -- Bulldogs ace Dan Hanolt tossed a no-hitter, striking out six batters and walking one.
Jake Harvey doubled in two runs while Hanolt and Nick Baiamonte each had two singles and an RBI for the Bulldogs (12-1, 8-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).
Ryan Williams pitched six innings for the Clippers (6-4, 5-3).
Springfield 17, Lisbon 10
LISBON -- Bobby Rodgers had three hits and four RBIs while Andy Richey added two hits for the Tigers (12-3, 7-2 ITCL).
Dana Rose had three hits and Corey Hile added two for Lisbon (0-10, 0-8).
United 7, Crestview 1
NEW WATERFORD -- Jake Snyder scattered five hits with nine strikeouts to pick up the win for the Golden Eagles (5-5, 5-3). Jimmy Phillis hit a pair of singles and scored twice.
The Rebels are 4-7, 4-4.
Sebring 9, Western Reserve 5
BERLIN CENTER -- The Trojans (8-6, 7-2 ITCL Tier Two) remained tied with McDonald for first place.
Junior Zach Tiech (4-1) pitched a complete game as he scattered five hits. Aaron Burd hit a double, two singles and drove in four runs for the Trojans. Josh Hallett hit a double, single and drove in two runs.
The Blue Devils are 5-4 in the ITCL.
McDonald 4, Lowellville 2
McDONALD -- Steven Hughes (2-1) scattered four hits with 14 strikeouts to pick up the win.
He walked and scored in the third inning, tripled and drove in a run in the fourth inning and doubled and scored in the sixth inning for the Blue Devils (7-6, 7-2).
Lakeview 18, Hubbard 2
HUBBARD -- Dave DeJacimo pitched a four-hitter while Mark Novotny had a double, three singles and four RBIs to lead Lakeview (6-9, 4-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Kevin Cox had two singles and four RBIs.
For Hubbard, Frank Rosile had two singles and two RBIs.
Liberty 13, LaBrae 8Liberty 9, Hubbard 4
STRUTHERS -- Sunday at Cene Park, Jon Krause's four hits include two triples and drove in four runs for Liberty against LaBrae. Ryan Karson's three hits included a triple and brought in two runs. David Szackacs had two hits and two RBIs. For the Vikings, Eric Hart had three hits while Cory Heinzman had two hits and two RBIs. Also with two hits were Josh White and Jake Shaffer.
Against Hubbard, Liberty's Sam Jaffee had three hits that brought home three runs. Justin Barker had three hits while Jon Krause and Ryan Karson each had two hits. For Hubbard, Frank Palestro had two hits and two RBIs.
Southeast 4, Coventry 2
AKRON -- Behind 2-1, the Pirates (3-9) scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Greg Lemley hit three singles and drove in run.
Steve Beckert and Eric Street each it two singles for Coventry (1-6).
