BASEBALL
Mooney 17, Lakeview 9
STRUTHERS -- Tony Brunetti went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, five runs and two RBIs to lead Mooney. Matt Durkin added four hits, scored four runs and drove in three runs for the Cardinals (10-3) and Anthony Franceschelli had two hits and four RBIs. Eric Pirtz tripled and drove in four runs for Lakeview, while Mark Novotny and Dave DeJacimo each had two hits.
Lakeview 14, Brookfield 4
STRUTHERS -- DeJacimo had three hits, including a double and a triple, scored two runs and drove in four for Lakeview (5-9, 3-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Adam Lindsey added two hits and three RBIs. Mike Stanish had three hits and two RBIs for Brookfield.
Lowellville 13-17, Mineral Ridge 12-7
MINERAL RIDGE -- In sweeping the doubleheader, the Rockets had 15 hits in the first game and 18 in the second. Jared Donatelli tripled, doubled, singled and scored four times for Lowellville in the opening game. Every player in the starting lineup got at least one hit for the Rockets (7-4). Vince Simon added a triple, two singles and drove in two runs.
Salem 9-13, Chaney 8-3
SALEM -- David Wright singled home Sean McKee with the winning run in the last of the seventh inning with no outs to give Salem the win, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. With the score tied at 8-8, McKee reached base on an error and advanced when Derek Ball was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Wright's winning hit. Wright finished with two singles and three RBIs for Salem. Dustin Guyer had a double, a single and two RBIs for Chaney. In the nightcap, Chip Hank had a double, single and three RBIs for Salem (7-7), while Wright had two singles and two RBIs, McKee a solo homer and Bobby Spaulding two RBIs. Joe Morales had a double and two RBIs and Pat Allen three singles to lead Chaney (1-12).
SOFTBALL
Fitch 5, Howland 3
HOWLAND -- Sophomore Heidi Soriano hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lift Fitch on Saturday. Soriano pitched seven innings of scoreless relief to get the win and also had a single for the Falcons (3-5), while Sam Kozbial had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Stephanie Berdis singled and doubled.
Ashtabula Edgewood 6, Boardman 3Pickerington Central 10, Boardman 2
ASHLAND -- In the East of Chicago Tournament, Kelsey Ford (4-2) struck out 11 but allowed 10 hits for the Spartans against Edgewood. Ford also had a single and a two-run homer while Shannon Marrow tripled. Edgewood is 7-0. Against Pickerington Central, the Spartans (7-5) led 2-0 before Pickerington Central (14-2) scored six times in the third inning. Marrow and Lizzie Padgett doubled for Boardman.
