HEART ASSOCIATION | Lobbying Congress

An Austintown woman will be among American Heart Association representatives in Washington, D.C., to urge lawmakers to:
Co-sponsor the Heart disease Education, Analysis and Research, and Treatment for Women Act (HEART for Women Act), bipartisan federal legislation that would improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in women.
Increase federal funding for heart disease and stroke research and prevention efforts supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Co-sponsor the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2007, bipartisan federal legislation granting the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate the manufacture, distribution, promotion and sale of tobacco products to protect the public health.
Appropriate 64.3 million, or a 20 million increase, that would allow the CDC to elevate up to six more states for program implementation and add up to 12 states to start planning for the State Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program.
Substantially increase funding for NIH heart and stroke research.
