Mariner's three-hitter stops Rebels; United rallies in 9th



Campbell, Canfield and Struthers won MAC contests.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield High's Mark Mariner pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts Friday to pick up a 2-1 win over Crestview in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One baseball game.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning as Dane Dobson singled, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on another fielder's choice.
Bobby Rogers of the Tigers reached base on an error in the fifth inning. He advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
The Rebels scored their only run in the sixth inning on a single, two stolen bases and another single.
United 11, Lisbon 7
LISBON -- Tyler Phillis, Jim Phillis and Joe Corley each had RBI singles in the ninth inning as the Eagles scored four times to win.
Andy Sheen and McCavit Carter each had three hits for United (5-6, 4-3 ITCL Tier One).
For the Blue Devils (0-9, 0-7), Lucas Rambo had three hits while Dana Rose hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to force extra innings.
Liberty 5, East Palestine 3
EAST PALESTINE -- Trailing by a run, Liberty scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, then added an insurance run in the seventh.
John Krause scattered six hits and struck out four to pick up the win.
Dan Hanlot hit a triple to pace the Bulldogs (11-1).
Campbell 14, East Liverpool 4
CAMPBELL -- Raul Pizzaro doubled, tripled and picked up the decision for the Red Devils (3-4, 1-3 Metro Athletic Conference).
Dan Saccui added two doubles in a 13-hit attack by Campbell.
East Liverpool is 0-5, 0-4.
Canfield 10, Howland 0
CANFIELD -- Brian Fox pitched a five-inning one-hitter.
Fox struck out one and didn't issue a walk.
D.J. Haurin doubled and drove in three runs for the Cardinals (13-0, 5-0 MAC), while Jon Pitzulo had two RBIs.
Struthers 14, Salem 3
SALEM -- The Wildcats (7-6, 1-3 MAC) scored five runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth.
Zach Jones hit a double, two singles and scored for times for Struthers. Ben Habuda hit two doubles, single and scored two times.
Nick Lesky hit two singles for the Quakers (5-7, 2-4).
South Range 16,Western Reserve 6
NORTH LIMA -- The Raiders (3-5) put the game out of reach as they scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Steve Bensinger hit a triple and single, scored four times and drove in three runs. Chris Gause hit two singles.
Hubbard 2, Brookfield 0
NILES -- Mike Carnahan hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning for Hubbard at Eastwood Field.
Junior Steve Zubyk (1-2) of the Eagles (6-4, 2-4 TAC) fired a one-hitter as the Warriors' Ryan Miller hit an infield single in the third inning. Zubyk struck out 14 batters.
Pat Mulligan of Brookfield allowed only four hits in a losing cause.
Girard 8, Lakeview 7
CORTLAND -- Marty Brinker went the distance to earn the pitching victory for the Indians (8-3, 3-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Nick Devore's two hits led the Girard batting attack.
For the Bulldogs, Dave DeJacimo's two hits included a three-run homer and drove in four runs.
Jon Mullins and Kevin Cox also had two hits while Justin Williams drove in two runs.
Mark Novotny took the pitching loss but struck out eight and walked one.
