State grant to help expand recycling

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County's solid waste management district has received 50,000 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to expand recycling efforts.
The community development grant came from ODNR's Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention.
The money will be used to buy 12 roll-off recycling containers to be used in Struthers, Campbell and Boardman, Milton, Beaver, Goshen, Canfield and Springfield townships.
Jim Petuch, director of the county's Reuse and Recycling Division, said the grant will increase from 35 to 44 the sites in the county, making recycling more convenient and accessible for county residents.
The county's grant is part of the more than 1 million awarded across the state.
"These projects are excellent examples of our growing recognition that any sound development, any development that is good for Ohio, will not happen at the expense of conservation," ODNR Director Sean D. Logan said in a news release. "It will happen because of conservation and in cooperation with it."
