On the chopping block
An Ohio lawmaker has proposed legislation to do away with mayor's courts in municipalities with populations of 1,600 or less. Here are the cities and villages that have mayor's courts in the three-county area. The numbers in parentheses show the political subdivisions with less than 1,600.
Mahoning: Canfield, Lowellville (1,281), Poland and New Middletown.
Trumbull: Hubbard and McDonald.
Columbiana: Hanoverton (387), Columbiana, Leetonia, New Waterford (1,391), Rogers (266), Wellsville, Washingtonville (789), Salineville (1,397) and Summitville (108).
