YOUNGSTOWN -- A Youngstown State University student reported she was robbed by a man on the third level of the Wick Avenue parking deck shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday. The victim said the man stuck something in her back, demanded money and stole a silver mesh ring off her finger before fleeing in what was described as an older-model, brown, rusted vehicle driven by an accomplice. Police searched the area but didn't find the suspects.
Carjacking on Belmont
LIBERTY -- Police are looking for a man believed to have carjacked a 72-year-old Warren man on Belmont Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police reports, the man told officers he had just finished eating a frozen yogurt at a local ice cream shop then drove across Belmont Avenue to another restaurant when a man threatened to beat him up if he did not hand over the keys to his 2000 BMW. The man told police he threw the keys and ran into the restaurant.
The man and witnesses told police the carjacker, described as a light-skin black male between ages 18 and 25, picked up the keys and drove away with the car.
Radio tower sold for 1
LISBON -- The Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department will be able to buy an unused radio tower for a dollar.
The Columbiana County commissioners approved the sale at their meeting Wednesday.
The tower was erected at the county jail property west of Lisbon about 25 years ago, but the tower was never used, said Jim Hoppel, chairman of the commissioners.
Hoppel said the tower was built at the property that once was going to be the new headquarters for the county's Emergency Management Agency. But the agency was moved to Negley and then to Lisbon, where it is located today.
Hearing set in stabbing
WARREN -- A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday for Charles Smith, who was arraigned Wednesday in the stabbing death of his brother.
Smith, 46, of 806 Kinsman St. N.W., is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the Saturday death of his brother, Carl Smith, 28, same address.
Charles Smith is being held in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of 10,000 bond. He was under guard at St. Joseph Hospital where he was treated for injuries suffered in the fight with his brother at their home.
Police said that Charles Smith was ordered out of the house because of his lifestyle, including drug addiction. While the rest of the family was upstairs, Charles and Carl Smith fought on the first floor and Carl Smith suffered several stab wounds of the chest and abdomen, police said.
Spring Fling at museum
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Children's Museum of the Valley will hold Spring Fling, a family event, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Activities will include a treasure hunt; hatching chicks; balloon art; storytelling; and guest Juggling for Joy at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be a hula-hoop contest for children, with the winner receiving a birthday party at the museum. Children are encouraged to bring their own hula hoops.
In addition, children who wear their brightest tropical shirt will be registered to win a membership to the museum.

Grants for computers
WARREN -- State Rep. Tom Letson of Warren announced Wednesday that the Warren G. Harding High School Library has received 18,535 in state grants to buy 20 laptops and software.
Dump site cleanup
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Shenango River Watchers and the Mercer County Trails Association will clean an illegal dump site Saturday. Those interested in helping should meet at 8 a.m. on Main Street at the bridge that crosses the Shenango River. People are needed to help load dump trucks as well as pull large objects from the river. Once the dump trucks are unloaded, people are needed to sort through the debris and divide the trash from the recyclable materials and load everything into the appropriate trash bins.
