Porter tosses one-hitter in Mooney win
Shannon Morrow pitched a two-hit shutout as Boardman beat McKinley.
BOARDMAN -- Freshman Chrissy Porter struck out nine and didn't issue a walk over four full innings in pitching a one-hitter as Mooney High defeated Beaver Local 10-0 in a softball game Wednesday.
Mooney senior Laura Guyer led off the game with a home run and senior teammate Monique Irwin had a three-run homer later in the first inning.
Senior DiAndra Dibacco had two doubles and a single for the Cards (10-2).
Guyer, Irwin, sophomore Katie Hughes and senior Mimi Vitello each added doubles.
Beaver Local's Brittany Barrett had her team's lone hit -- an infield single in fourth. She was the only baserunner for the visitors (9-6).
Boardman 5, Canton McKinley 0
BOARDMAN -- Sophomore Shannon Morrow (3-1) gave up only two singles after facing 23 batters for Boardman (6-3, 2-1 Federal League).
Morrow also struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Morrow had pair of singles and knocked in one run.
Junior Kelsey Ford had two doubles and two RBIs, Makala Gasparek had a pair of singles and senior Justine Cullen had a two-run single for the Spartans.
Gasparek, a senior, also scored twice.
McKinley dropped to 4-6, 0-2 Federal.
Springfield 11, Crestview 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Melissa Caraballo went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Springfield (5-3, 5-1 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).
Erica Burkey pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking two. Burkey also had two hits and an RBI.
Andria Lyons, Ashley Davis, Leah Noel and Breanne Mincher each added two hits. Crestview is 2-6.
Champion 20, Brookfield 1
CHAMPION -- Freshman Morgan White had a one-hitter over three innings and freshman Amanda Sain pitched the last two innings.
Senior Jackie Knepp had three hits and three RBIs and junior Jessica Frantz and Ashley Rable had two hits apiece for Champion (5-5, 1-4 TAC). Rable, a sophomore, finished with four RBIs.
VanMeter had a second-inning homer for Brookfield.
Hubbard 4, LaBrae 3
HUBBARD -- Cara Egelsky pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also drove in the winning run in the last of the fifth inning to spark Hubbard (7-2, 3-1 TAC).
Egelski's sacrifice fly drove in Jessica Lunt with the tie-breaking run. Lunt had singled, stole second and went to third on a sacrifice fly.
Egelsky also had a double, single and three RBIs while Lunt had two singles and Pugh a two-run homer.
Angelica Pugh rapped a homer for LaBrae (3-1, 2-1 TAC).
Lakeview 8, Liberty 6
CORTLAND -- Cheslsea Butler had three singles and two RBIs to lead Lakeview (6-1, 2-0 TAC) while Amy Downs and Jen Baker each had two singles.
Abbey Bensing (4-1) threw a nine-hitter to get the win.
Melissa Dykes and Ashley Hackett each had two singles and one RBI and Michelle Dykes two singles to lead Liberty (2-4).
Western Reserve 10, Lowellville 4
BERLIN CENTER -- Elizabeth Srock pitched a five-hitter and also had a triple, a single and one RBI for Western Reserve (6-8, 5-2 ITCL).
Ellie Sanders had a double, two singles and two RBIs to key Western Reserve, while McKenzie Mowery added a triple, a single and one RBI and Chelsea Korda a double and two RBIs
For Lowellville (6-3, 4-2), Cara Blinsky had a triple, a single and two RBIs, Cori Pavlicko added a double and two RBIs and Jacque Schrader two singles.
Southeast 8, Ravenna 0
RAVENNA -- Danielle Kaley scattered six hits and add a triple and three RBIs for Southeast (9-2, 4-1 Portage Trail Conference).
Alyssa Biltz had two hits for the Pirates, including a double, while Meagan Wain, Katelin Dillon and Lindsay Speidel all singled twice.
Brittani Dowdi doubled and singled for Ravenna (2-5, 0-4).
Late Tuesday
NORTH CANTON -- Jessica Simpson fired a no-hitter for defending state champion North Canton (7-0, 3-0 Federal League) in a 5-0 win over Austintown Fitch.
Fitch is 2-4, 0-2.
