Event to teach about tobacco's detriments



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Stand Team will be hosting "Stand Summit 2007" on Saturday at Youngstown State University's Kilcawley Center.
The summit, which will begin at 9 a.m. in the Ohio Room and conclude at 1 p.m., is open to any student in the area ages 12-18. Youth from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties will learn how they can be an advocate against tobacco in their schools and communities. Students will attend sessions on such topics as the social effects of smoking, the tobacco horror picture show, media and tobacco use, Tobacco Free Schools and advocacy. Students also will have the opportunity to receive Stand gear and a free T-shirt.
The Mahoning County Stand Team members developed the topics and will lead the learning together against tobacco. The summit is sponsored by a grant received by the Mahoning County District Board of Health from the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation.
