Austintown school bus schedule sparks discussion

AUSTINTOWN — Parents crowded into Fitch High School auditorium today for a meeting about next year’s bus schedules.

With a reconfiguration of grade levels because of the new middle school on Raccoon Road, transportation director Colleen Murphy called the changes for 2007-2008 “the single greatest change in the history of the school district.”

Next fall, grades kindergarten to three will be in the elementary schools. Frank Ohl Middle School will become an intermediate school for grades four and five. The new middle school will house grades six and eight.

A committee of parents, administrators and schools staff worked on the bus plan, which involved three public meetings and took into consideration the number of students, grade levels, educational requirements, extra-curricular activities and parents’ concerns, Murphy said.
