YOUNGSTOWN -- Susan Shaffer, 41 Como St., Struthers, and Luis Mateo III, 1421 Humbolt Ave., were united in marriage during a 3:30 p.m. ceremony March 10 at Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Peter Lawson officiated at the wedding, and the couple were honored later that day at a reception at the Byzantine Center at the Grove. Afterward they left for a honeymoon at Niagara Falls, Canada.
Parents of the bride are James Shaffer, 531 Sixth St., Struthers, and Patty Shaffer, 3602 Krieger Lane. The groom is a son of Luis Mateo II of Kinsman and Terri Nunley of Youngstown.
The bride wore an empire-style gown fashioned with long lace sleeves and a gently scooped neckline.
Red gowns were worn by Lisa Shaffer, the bride's sister and honor attendant, and the bridesmaids, Christine Fandozzi and Dee Shaffer, also her sisters; Joyce Greathouse; Kathy Bickel, her cousin; Racheal Fandozzi, her niece; and Miracle Mateo, the groom's daughter.
Anthony Crawford was best man for his brother, and serving as groomsmen were Squire Cross; James Shaffer Jr., the bride's brother; Chris Simmon; Jason Wileman; Tyler Shaffer, the bride's son; and Vince Fandozzi, her nephew. Ring bearers were Colin Mateo, the groom's son, and Jacob Shaffer, the bride's son.
Mrs. Mateo is an auditor with Toys R Us, and Mr. Mateo is employed in receiving at Bed Bath and Beyond in Boardman.
