St. Stephen of Hungary Church Altar and Rosary Society, 854 Wilson Ave., will sponsor a bingo and card party at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church hall. The cost is $5 and includes a lunch and door prizes. FESTIVALS
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, will host an Oktober Fest beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 featuring a buffet dinner from 7 to 8:30 p.m. of kielbasi, sauerkraut, pork, haluski, potatoes, green beans, salad, bread, apple dumpling a la mode and coffee and tea for $20. Patrons may take beverages; setups will be provided. There will be band music. Families are encouraged to take lawn chairs or blankets to sit on at the campfire. There will be hayrides, campfire entertainment with Jon Mosey, and freshly made apple butter. FUNDRAISERS
American Diabetes Association will hold a Walk for Diabetes Oct. 8 at Canfield Fairgrounds. Registration for the five-mile walk is at 9 a.m. with complimentary coffee, juice and bagels available. The walk begins at 10. Afterward pizza will be provided for walkers, who will receive goodie bags filled with useful items and coupons. Entheos Salon and Day Spa, 8286 South Ave., Building 2, Boardman, will sponsor "Living Well 2006," a lifestyle and wellness fair, from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 1 as a benefit for the Rich Center for Autism. Tickets are $5 and are available at the spa or at the door. The interactive, hands-on event will feature demonstrations and activities. Participating will be experts from many different disciplines that are focused on helping people live life to the fullest.
Great Harvest Bread Co., 7694 Market St., will hold a sale of four different types of bread for $5 a loaf and a giant oatmeal cookie sale for $1 each on Sept. 18 as a benefit for the Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens. Mission of Love Foundation will hold a steak and Louisiana shrimp dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at Fraternal Order of Eagles 3298, 1655 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. Featured will be Teddy Pantelas, jazz musician, and the speakers will be Ina Thibodeaux and Kris Fisher from Lafitte, La., who received homes built by Mission of Love volunteers. SALES
East Palestine Rotary Club will hold a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at East Palestine City Park. Craft vendors or any group or individual with rummage items to sell are invited. Those participating may take their own table or rent a 10x10-foot space for $30. Setup begins at 6 a.m., and tear down is at 2. Struthers Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the library, 95 Poland Ave., Struthers. Children's books, novels, magazines, videos, CDs, and educational, fiction and nonfiction books will be sold.
Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman, will hold its annual trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Most items are 25 cents.
Women of the New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road, New Springfield, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday. Lunch will be available Thursday, and bags will be provided Friday for a $1 a bag sale.
SHOWSMahoning Valley Dahlia Society will hold a Midwest Dahlia Conference Show from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park. TRIPSAmerican Hungarian Federation of Churches and Societies is sponsoring a trip on Oct. 21 to Penn Scenic View, Rockwood, Pa., for a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the freedom fight in Hungary.
