Novotny 70th is celebrated at Mass, party



XSTRUTHERS -- The 70th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Novotny, 442 Ninth St., was celebrated during two events on Aug. 26.
At 4:30 p.m. that day, the couple attended a Mass held in their honor at Holy Trinity Church, where they were married Aug. 24, 1936, and where they are members.
Afterward they were feted during a party at the Canfield home of a granddaughter and her husband, Beth and Dan Sabol.
Sharing the duties as hosts for the event were the couple's daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Moorhead of Struthers and Elaine and Tom McGraw of Boardman, and their five other grandchildren. The couple also have 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Novotny, the former Mary Stanesich, was employed at Singer Sewing Center in Youngstown for 10 years prior to retiring in 1960. She served as financial secretary for Branch 156 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union for 24 years. Mr. Novotny was an assistant general foreman at the Campbell Works of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. for 42 years until retiring in 1975. He is a charter member of Struthers Knights of Columbus 4224, a past grand knight and past faithful navigator of Father Hennessey 4th Degree Assembly.
