Ceremonies to mark anniversary



Memorial ceremonies for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks will take place Monday in Austintown and Canfield.
The Mahoning Valley 9/11 Memorial will have a fifth-year observance at 5 p.m. Monday at the Mahoning Valley 9/11 Memorial Park, 1055 S. Raccoon Road.
The memorial committee has updated the park. The public is invited to view the updates and take a moment to remember those lost five years ago.
The Cardinal Joint Fire District also will host its fifth 9/11 observance.
The ceremony will feature honor guards of the fire department, the Austintown Fire Department, the Youngstown Police Department and the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. There will be a 21-gun salute.
The Celtic Flame Pipe and Drum Corps from Warren will perform, and speakers will include people who worked at ground zero in New York City.
The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. on the Canfield Village Green. For more information, call Fire Chief Robert Tieche or honor guard commander Fred Marcum at (330) 533-4316.

Other activities planned:
St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, will dedicate the 12:10 Mass Monday to the victims of the terror attacks. Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Youngstown, will be the celebrant.
The reality and impact of post-9/11 faith will be the topic of a public discussion at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road, Girard. A potluck supper is scheduled for 5 p.m. For more information, call the pastor, the Rev. Deborah Dockstader, at (330) 505-1192.
