9 volunteers attend workshop

CORTLAND -- The Trumbull Soil & amp; Water Conservation District recently held a volunteer training workshop for those interested in helping out with environmental and conservation educational events and programming.
Nine volunteers attended, including a grandmother with her granddaughter, who learned about the use of displays and monitoring equipment for classroom and outdoor educational activities.
Some of the volunteers worked nets, as would be done for the Stream Watch program.
The training included biological and chemical monitoring for Youngstown State University's Mahoning River Project.
Possible chaperones and team monitors will also be needed for events such as the Junior High Envirothon, Trumbull County Summer Sizzle, county fairs, canoe trips and stream and river cleanups.
SWCD-certified volunteers will also conduct classroom presentations with pre-set curricula, and sometimes they will use the Enviroscape, which is a hands-on interactive table-top model that illustrates water pollution.
If you are interested in volunteering or for more information, call Amy Reeher, SWCD watershed coordinator, at (330) 637-2056 Ext. 111, or visit the Trumbull SWCD Web site at www.swcd.co.trumbull.oh.us.
