Rayen wins, 25-15; JFK defeats Struthers, 28-7



Salem slipped to 0-2 after losing to United, 24-21.
LODI -- Gary Thornton rushed for 168 yards on 14 carries Friday to lead The Rayen School football team to a 25-15 victory over Cloverleaf.
After Jason Guyer's 20-yard touchdown run and extra-point kick put Cloverleaf (0-2) ahead, 7-0, the Tigers (1-1) scored 25 straight points.
Rayen tied the game when Sal Battles ran for an 8-yard touchdown and Markquinn Davis kicked the extra point.
Thornton's 6-yard touchdown put the Tigers ahead for good and Marquis Hudson's 45-yard fumble recovery touchdown gave Rayen a 19-7 halftime edge.
In the third quarter, Rayen's Stevie Slade scored on a 2-yard run.
In the fourth quarter, Cloverleaf quarterback Cody Roberts hit Taylor Riggs with a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Battles rushed for 49 yards on eight carries and Davis, a defensive end, led the Tigers defense with nine tackles.
Warren JFK 28,Struthers 7
WARREN -- Jared Province rushed for 107 yards on 12 carries and scored touchdowns of 5 and 4 yards to lead the Eagles (2-0).
Quarterback J.J. Townsend passed for 124 yards by completing 14-of-22 tosses including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Desmar Jackson. Anthony Kokal returned an interception 15 yards for a score.
For Struthers (0-2), Matt Kukura rushed for 83 yards on seven carries and Sam Valiquette gained 68 on 18 tries. Kukura scored the Wildcats' touchdown on a 58-yard run.
United 24,Salem 21
HANOVERTON -- Bryan Phillips kicked a 24-yard field goal with 4:07 remaining to snap a 21-21 tie after the Golden Eagles had rallied from a 21-7 deficit.
After Salem (0-2) went ahead 21-7 in the second quarter, United (1-1) bounced back to score a pair of touchdowns to tie the game.
Jordan Wrask scored on a 53-yard pass from Phillips and Phillips kicked the extra point in the second quarter to pull the Golden Eagles within 21-14.
Then Marcus Dangelo ran 3 yards to a TD and Phillips again added the placement in the third quarter to even the score.
Phillips also fired a 42-yard TD strike to Mike Shinn and added the placement in the first quarter to give United a 7-0 lead.
Phillips finished with 118 yards in the air on 5-for-15 while Wrask led the ground attack with 79 yards rushing in 13 carries. Marcus Dangelo added 58 yards in 12 carries and Josh Hartenstein 54 yards in eight carries.
J.J. Johnson led Salem with 169 yards rushing in 23 attempts, including a 3-yard TD dash. Austen Hutton ran for 43 yards in six carries, one of them a 12-yard scoring run.
Zac O'Brien got the Quakers' other TD on a 1-yard plunge while Seth Harding kicked three extra points.
Youngstown Christian 36,Fairport Harbor 18
CANFIELD -- Junior quarterback Randy Triplett had his hand in three touchdowns and accumulated 333 yards of total offense for the Eagles (2-0).
Triplett ran 16 times for 138 yards and a 1-yard touchdown. Through the air he was 12-for-28 for 195 yards and two scores.
Toba Olarewaju rushed nine times for 106 yards and a 29-yard touchdown.
Eddie Gonda caught four balls for 124 yards including touchdown aerials covering 62 and 39 yards.
