EAST PALESTINE -- Dr. Donald Aull, interim pastor of First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St., leads his first service in the community at the church's 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Special music will be provided by the church's men's quartet. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.
Ministers honored
WARREN -- Community Church of God in Christ, 310 Austin Ave., will have a musician's appreciation at 6 tonight. This appreciation will honor Minister of Music Kwane L. Austin and Minister Lamar D. Austin for their commitment to their church and community. There will be choirs, groups, soloists and instrumentalists. Host pastor is Elder Auston Shaw III. The public is invited.
Healing service
YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including communion, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. The monthly service is open to the public. A part of the service, in which members of the congregation may take part if they choose, is the "healing" or laying-on-of-hands (on the head) with a suitable prayer. St. John's Episcopal Church is next door to the main branch of the Youngstown and Mahoning County Library, across from Youngstown State University's Jones Hall. Novena planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Cyril & amp; Methodius Parish, 252 E. Wood St., will have a novena to St. Therese of the Child Jesus, "The Little Flower," beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday concluding with a 10:30 a.m. Mass on Oct. 1. Rosary begins at 5 p.m. St. Therese religious articles will be available.
Church picnic set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Spanish Evangelical Church, 2530 South Ave., will observe Labor Day during a picnic from 1-3 p.m. Monday at Scholl Pavilion at Mill Creek Metroparks. A back-to-school children's festival with games, bounce-a-rounds and snacks will be featured. There also will be a giveaway of school supplies while supplies last.
Artists to perform
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Recording artists Blaine Bowman and his Good Time Band perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Worship Center, U.S. Route 422 West (1465 Sampson St.). The group was nominated by the County Gospel Music Guild for band of the year and trio of the year, and it won the Guild's comedian of the year award in 2004.
Rosary cenacle
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and the Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday during the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Community Bible study
AUSTINTOWN -- A community Bible study, a 30-week in-depth, interdenominational study will start Sept. 14 at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Raccoon Road. Sessions will be at 9:15 a.m. An evening session will be from 7-8:45 p.m. starting Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman. Now in its 14th year, the class will study Deuteronomy and Psalms. There is a nursery, preschool and program for home-schooled children from kindergarten through sixth grade at Evangelical Presbyterian. For more information, call (330) 758-4276. Music night planned
COLUMBIANA -- Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road, is having a music night at 6 p.m. Sunday featuring a variety of talents from people within the congregation. The public is welcome.
Featured speaker at event
NILES -- Floyd McClung, international director of All Nations, a global network of church planting teams and author of twelve books, will be the featured speaker at the Fall AIM Conference at 7 p.m. nightly Sept. 10, 11 and 12 at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road. Other speakers include Dr Dale Fife, author and ministry network overseer, and Jim Erb, president of AIM, a network of churches and ministries, and current pastor at Pleasant Valley Church. All services are open to the public.
