Second brother found shot to death

One brother's pregnant girlfriend was shot to death in 1998.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Within 10 months, two brothers died from gunfire.
Wadell L. Casey, 29, of 1816 Stewart Ave. on the East Side, was found shot in the head on a couch in his living room around 6:30 p.m. Monday. A witness, shot in the hand, survived.
Within three hours, the suspect, 30-year-old Charles Jones of Lincoln Park Drive, was "smoked out," Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives, said Tuesday. "I'm proud of the detectives, patrol division and Street Crimes Unit -- they all worked together."
No motive was given for the shooting. Jones was expected to be arraigned Wednesday in municipal court.
On Jan. 2, Arlis R. Casey, 35, of East Florida Avenue, died on a porch at 905 Hawthorne St. on the South Side. He had been shot in the head around 5:30 p.m. His brother Wadell was wounded in the hand.
John A. Weaver, 29, of 905 Hawthorne, is charged with the murder of Arlis Casey and is awaiting trial in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Records show Wadell Casey was expected to testify at the upcoming trial. A trial date is pending a motion hearing set for Dec. 5
The Casey brothers' mother, Brenda Rozier, declined to comment Tuesday, according to her husband, who answered the door at their Campbell home.
Drug charges
Court records show that Wadell Casey had a jury trial scheduled for Jan. 8, 2007. He was indicted in March, charged with trafficking in crack cocaine (four counts), trafficking in marijuana, complicity to trafficking in drugs (three counts), possession of cocaine with firearms specifications, possession of drugs and possession of heroin with forfeiture specifications, according to Vindicator files.
The case was combined with a receiving stolen-property charge filed against him in June 2005.
Vindicator files show that Wadell Casey's live-in girlfriend, LaShawnda Aziz, and her 4-year-old son were shot to death in November 1998. Aziz was pregnant at the time, and the fetus died. Her 3-year-old daughter was shot but survived and testified.
Casey was the father of Aziz's unborn child and owner of the Lansdowne Boulevard home where the murders occurred during a robbery, according to newspaper files. Casey was the intended robbery victim but wasn't home.
Anthony Anderson and Kelvin Calwise were convicted of the triple murder and sentenced to three life terms in prison. Calwise is in the Trumbull Correctional Institution and Anderson in the Toledo Correctional Institution.
