Laying of Roses will honor vets

One hundred Mahoning County residents died in the Vietnam War.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 15th annual Laying of the Roses to honor those who were killed or went missing in action while serving their country in Vietnam will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Vietnam War Memorial on The Square in downtown Youngstown.
During the ceremony, one rose will be placed at the monument by family members or friends in memory of each of the 100 Mahoning County residents killed in the Vietnam War and the two who are missing in action. All veterans units are invited to attend and participate.
The guest speaker is Joe Andry, of Westerville, who served in the Army from January 1969 until he received a medical discharge in October 1970. Andry, who has 30 years of experience dealing with veteran benefits and issues, is chief of the Bureau of Veterans Services of the Department of Job and Family Services. He is active in his community and several veterans organizations, is a former state and national commander of the Disabled American Veterans, and was recently inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.
