Deadline nears for ACS applications

YOUNGSTOWN -- Friday is the deadline for filing applications for the American Cancer Society, Ohio Division's 2007 Community Investment Grants.
The grants are awarded to agencies and projects aimed at reducing the incidence of breast cancer in Ohio work sites. Applicants will be notified of funding by Jan. 5.
Programs submitted for funding should incorporate the following elements: breast cancer awareness and education; collaboration with health-care providers and insurance companies; and work site/employers-based strategies.
Funding should not be used for screening services, treatment costs, one-time events such as health fairs, or incentives, unless they are in conjunction with other programs or larger initiatives.
Applicants should be tax-exempt organizations or organizations seeking support for a project that would qualify as educational or charitable.
Funding must support Ohio residents, and all agencies must demonstrate collaboration with the American Cancer Society, said Al Stabilito, the cancer society's Northeast Ohio public relations director.
Community Investment Grants applications and information can be obtained by calling (888) 227-6446).
