W. Illinois surprises No. Iowa

Western Kentucky moved into a tie for first place by beating Indiana State.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Steve LaFalce threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns as Western Illinois upset Northern Iowa 24-13 Saturday in the Gateway Conference.
Western Illinois (4-5, 1-4 Gateway) shut out the Panthers in the second half and held them to 71 rushing yards.
Herb Donaldson led the Leathernecks' rushing attack with 96 yards on 27 carries. Alex Douglas added 28 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown run with 1:10 left that sealed the win.
Northern Iowa (5-3, 3-1) quarterback Eric Saunders struggled against Western Illinois' defense, getting sacked three times and throwing for 201 yards on 20-of-36 passing.
Southern Illinois 27,Missouri St. 17
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Arkee Whitlock ran for two touchdowns as Southern Illinois beat Missouri State without coach Jerry Kill on the sidelines.
Kill watched the game from a stadium suite, two days after he was released from a St. Louis hospital. The 45-year-old coach had been hospitalized after suffering a seizure on Sunday, shortly after taping a weekly television show.
The Salukis (6-2, 3-2 Gateway) looked out of synch early in Saturday's game without their sixth-year coach.
W. Kentucky 41, Indiana St. 3
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Redshirt freshman running back Andrew McCloud rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns to lead Western Kentucky.
McCloud scored two first-quarter touchdowns to give the Hilltoppers a quick 14-0 lead, then added another touchdown in the fourth quarter as part of Western Kentucky's highest scoring output of the season.
The victory improves the Hilltoppers to 5-3 overall, but more importantly to 4-1 in conference play, where the Hilltoppers moved into a tie for first place with Youngstown State.
Indiana State (1-8, 1-4) struggled throughout the game with just 220 yards total offense, compared with 544 for Western Kentucky.
McCloud's effort was part of a 342 yards on the ground by Western Kentucky for 52 rushes. Tyrell Hayden added 83 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes, while Lerron Moore had 63 yards and a score on 11 attempts.
