One-woman show
SHARON, Pa. -- Elaine Rembrandt, an actress, writer, producer and director, will present a one-woman show at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Temple Beth Israel, 840 Highland Road, during the Shabbat service. Rembrandt, who has performed her one-woman shows for 17 years, will offer narration and dramatization of four outstanding Jewish women in history -- Deborah, the judge in the Promised Land; Dona Gracia Nasi Mendes during the Spanish Inquisition; Emma Lazarus, poet and writer at turn-of-the-century America who wrote the verse on the Statue of Liberty; and Golda Meir, former prime minister of Israel.
Eucharistic Day planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St., will hold a Eucharistic Day on Nov. 13. There will be a Mass at 8:30 a.m., followed by public adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:30 to 6:30 p.m. when the closing service will be held. Homilist will be the Rev. Bernard Gaeta, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Wellsville. Refreshments will follow the services.
Missionary to speak
BOARDMAN -- Mary Hermiz, a missionary to Kenya, will speak at Glenwood Christian Fellowship, 7872 Glenwood Ave., during the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Hermiz is director of the school of nursing at Tenwek Hospital in western Kenya and also teaches at the school in association with World Gospel Mission. World Gospel Mission is an interdenominational missionary organization with 350 missionaries and support staff serving six continents. WGM is involved in church planting and evangelism in Kenya and other ministries that include community health, medical work and training at Tenwek Hospital.
Veterans, heroes day
BELOIT -- Beloit Evangelical Friends Church, 18042 Fifth St., will observe Veterans and Heroes Day at its worship at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5. In addition to veterans, police, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, councilmen and school board members will be recognized. A love offering will be taken for the Daniel McVicker Scholarship Fund.
Guests will be the Rev. Jerry Hart, a retired sergeant first class in the U.S. Army and an associate at Alliance First Friends Church, and his daughter, Officer Lyndia Hart of the Malvern Police Department. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service.
Family and Friends Month
CAMPBELL -- Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will hold its annual Family and Friends Month in November. The theme will be "And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men" from Matthew 4:19. The programs, all at 4 p.m., will be: Nov. 5 with the Rev. Jack Pettis of Mount Zion Baptist Church; Nov. 12 with the Rev. Harold Logan of Beulah Baptist Church; and Nov. 19 with the Rev. John W. Tate II of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.
Rosary cenacle
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will hold a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The rosary will be recited during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Spiritual answers
WARREN -- John Tyler, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science, will speak on "Beyond the Sixth Sense," at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Avalon Inn, 9519 E. Market St. The free program will focus on prayer and spiritual answers. Sponsors are First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1515 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, and Christian Science Society.
Midway art gallery
COLUMBIANA -- Sculptures depicting the life of Jesus will be among artwork featured at Midway Mennonite Church, 13376 Columbiana-Canfield Road, from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 4 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 5. Sculptor Mahlon Schmucker of Wayne County fashioned his pieces from farmyard scrap materials. Parish members of Midway contributed paintings, photographs and needlework to the display.
Church anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 351 W. Rayen Ave., will celebrate its 46th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. A panel discussion followed by light refreshments will follow. The congregation of Shiloh Baptist Church in Campbell will be guests at the Nov. 13 anniversary event.
Outlaw Sunday
YOUNGSTOWN -- Outlaw Sunday is planned at 10 a.m. Sunday at Mahoning County Billiards, located at the rear of Mahoning Plaza, 3303 Mahoning Ave. Other meetings will be Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A trial sermon by Paulette Christian is scheduled at 6 p.m. Sunday at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 328 S. Forest St. The theme is "Our Responsibilities in Kingdom Building."
Relationship discussion
WARREN -- New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palmyra Road S.W., will hold a free discussion on male-female relationships, "He Say, She Say ... But What Does God Say?" at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Muslim celebration
YOUNGSTOWN -- Muslims in the Mahoning Valley celebrated the holiday of Eid-Ul-Fitr on Oct. 23 at Masjid Al-khair mosque. Eid-Ul-Fitr, or the feast of breaking fast, marks the end of Ramadan. Congregational prayers took place and refreshments followed.
