Liberty blanks Champion, 14-0



WARREN -- Fitzgerald Edwards and John Kraus each scored a touchdown Saturday to lead the Liberty High football team to a 14-0 victory over Champion at Mollenkopf Stadium.
Edwards carried the ball six times for 74 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Kraus scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Arlon Ware rushed 11 times for 49 yards for the Leopards (9-1, 6-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
The Leopards limited the Champion offense to 148 rushing yards and five passing yards.
Chris Wildman led the Golden Flashes (3-7, 1-6) with 14 carries for 55 yards. Jay Cage gained 42 yards on 16 tries.
Liberty is projected to finish seventh in the Division III Region 9 computer playoff ratings. Hubbard, the TAC champion, is projected to finish second.
In Week 9, Hubbard pounded Liberty, 35-0, handing the Leopards their first regular-season loss since the 2004 season. Last season, Liberty went 10-0 to win the TAC.
The playoff pairings will be announced today by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
Other Trumbull County football teams expected to qualify for the postseason are Warren Harding, Niles, Warren JFK and McDonald.
Other Mahoning Valley teams expected to earn a Week 11 date are Canfield, Mooney, South Range, Crestview, Columbiana and Western Reserve.
