Sharon felony arrests
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon police have had 26 felony crimes committed in the city since Sept. 7. and police have made arrests in 23 of those crimes, reported Mayor Robert Lucas. Lucas told city council Thursday that police should be commended for acting quickly last week when a man was shot in the leg. The suspect was arrested within 24 hours, he said. Lucas noted that he believes the problems are coming from people outside the city. The mayor said he rode with police officers last Friday night and of the six arrests, two people were from New Castle, two from Greenville, one from Philadelphia and one from Detroit. "We are on top of this," Lucas told council.
Domestic violence arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force arrested a 26-year-old Poland man wanted on a felony domestic violence warrant. They found him inside an apartment on Bellevue Avenue on the city's South Side, where he was for roughly two hours Wednesday night.
Leo H. Kellish of Wakefield Avenue rejected repeated attempts by police to get him to come out, said Detective Sgt. John Elberty. Once police entered the apartment, Kellish gave up, Elberty said. Residents of a nearby apartment were evacuated during negotiations. Records show the domestic violence charge originated in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman. The case is pending in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Armed robbery reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30-year-old Austintown man told police he was robbed at gunpoint when he pulled into the Youngstown Maennerchor lot on Mahoning Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Woodhurst Drive man said the robber reached into the car and demanded money and started to go through the victim's jacket pockets. The victim said he backed up and pulled out of the lot and drove around the block then called the bar to make sure no one else would come outside and get robbed. He told police that $40, several credit cards and his Louisiana license are missing. He said he moved here after Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana.
