Friday's Best Bets on TV

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" (8 p.m., ABC): Maybe tonight will be the night when the Great Pumpkin finally shows up and Linus' sincerity gets rewarded. Then again, probably not. Still, the classic Peanuts' Halloween special, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," remains a fun treat -- even in its 40th year.
"Masters of Horror: The Damned Thing" (10 p.m., Showtime): It's a new season for Showtime's "Masters of Horror," which sets loose 13 directors of acclaimed horror films to create spine-tingling hour episodes for this weekly anthology series. First up: Tobe Hooper ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Poltergeist") directs "The Damned Thing," the tale of an unknown monstrous force descending on a small Texas town that turns the locals against one another. Future episodes will be directed by John Carpenter ("Halloween"), John Landis ("American Werewolf in London"), Joe Dante ("Gremlins") and more.
"Mr. Meaty" (8:30 p.m., Nickelodeon): Josh and Parker discover being vampires isn't cool.
