Crestview district volleyball champ



The Rebels eliminated top-seeded Girard in three games.
SALEM -- It took second-seeded Crestview High just three games to eliminate top-seeded Girard, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15, in the Division III district volleyball championship Thursday.
Julie Simmons led the Rebels (23-2) with 15 kills and nine points. Chelsea Bowker had six kills and one block as Crestview advanced to the regional semifinals next Thursday at Barberton.
Elise Roscoe paced the Indians (22-4) with nine kills, four digs, one block and six points. Aysha Nickels had 26 assists, seven points, one ace and two digs.
St. Thomas 25-20-25-25,Jackson-Milton 21-25-20-23
LISBON -- Unseeded St. Thomas (15-11) advanced to the Twinsburg regional.
Steph Chirumbolo scored 15 points and had 29 assists for St. Thomas.
Alyssa Chine sparked Jackson-Milton (18-7) with 17 points, 14 kills and three aces.
Howland 1, Green 0
GREEN -- Zackary Byler scored the only goal with 3 minutes, 53 seconds remaining in the second overtime of the boys Division I district championship soccer game at Green High School.
The Tigers (16-1-2) advanced to regional competition Tuesday at Ravenna. Howland will play either Solon or Lakewood St. Edward.
Howland had eight shots on goal, compared to seven for Green. Paul Burley, the Tigers' goal keeper had six saves, while the Bulldogs' goalie Scott Worstall had seven saves.
