North Road will be 1-way for 2 years

HOWLAND -- The southern portion of North Road will be one way for the next two years beginning Monday, township trustees have been told.
The road, between East Market Street and U.S. Route 422, will be closed to northbound traffic during the 3.67 million improvement project. The project is being funded with Federal Highway Administration money.
Trustees received the update Wednesday from Randy Smith, deputy Trumbull County engineer, and Mike Sliwinski, project coordinator for the county engineer. Marucci & amp; Gaffney Excavating Co. of Youngstown is the general contractor.
"It won't be easy, and people will be frustrated," Darlene St. George, township administrator, said of the one-way traffic on the usually busy road.
St. George explained that the township will field complaints and pass them along to the county engineer's office.
Smith said emergency vehicles, such as firetrucks, will be able to use the southbound lane to get to a fire -- but will have to go around using another route to make the return trip.
The road will remain two lanes when completed, with added storm sewers and the installation of left-turn lanes at Adrian, Berkshire and Allenwood drives.
Cemetery bids
Also during the meeting, trustees authorized the township fiscal officer to advertise for bids to construct an addition to the township cemetery on state Route 46. St. George explained that the township bought and razed a house to the north of the cemetery to make way for 1,200 more plots. The project is expected to cost about 300,000 and will include construction of a road, installation of water and storm water lines, bringing in electrical service, fencing the property, landscaping it and laying out the plots.
Fire Chief George Brown pointed out that the International Association of Firefighters Local 2786 has been highlighted in the latest edition of First Due News, a magazine published by the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters. The article explains how the local, under the direction of fire Capt. Charles Phillips, has raised more than 100,000 since 1995 for Children's Rehabilitation Center in Howland. The local has held fund-raising events, including an annual golf tournament that raised 12,000 this summer for the center.

Bought from the State Cooperative Purchasing Program two heavy-duty plows for a total 10,942 and a 21/2-ton dump truck body for 5,649.
Declared a house at 8445 Old Farm Trail a nuisance for the second time this year and will cut the yard for 225. A lien is placed on the property for the amount the township charges.
Hired Rodney W. Clisby, Benjamin Glosser, John M. Beard and Anthony M. Cumo as part-time firefighters/emergency medical technicians. Brown said the four are firefighters in other area departments.
It was announced that Mark Zuppo, township director of planning and zoning, has been named Urban Conservationist of the Year by the Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District.
