House fire claims life of Canfield woman

CANFIELD -- A house fire in Canfield Township early this morning killed an 83-year-old woman.
Her 59-year-old son made it out of the house at 6492 Gibson Road. He was uninjured, said a family member at the scene this morning.
The Joint Cardinal Fire District was not releasing the victims names this morning until all relatives were notified.
The fire was reported at 3:44 a.m. by someone who was driving on Gibson. Don Hutchison, fire district assistant chief, said about 23 firefighters worked to put out the blaze, which had already engulfed the house, the garage and the homeowner's cars by the time firefighters arrived.
The house was a total loss. The state fire marshal's office was still at the scene at noon today, trying to determine the cause.
The relative at the scene this morning, who is from the Cleveland area, said the woman's son reported to firefighters that the fire started in a back room of the house.
