Warren man jailed on robbery charges

WARREN -- A 35-year-old man is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on charges of committing two aggravated robberies, including one in which police said he used a shoe as a weapon.
Tyrone Dowell, of Logan Avenue S.E., is being held on a total 50,000 cash or surety bond. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday in municipal court.
Dowell was charged Monday with the Oct. 9 robbery of a patron at the Warren Food Mart, 949 W. Market St.
Detective Jeffrey Hoolihan said Dowell allegedly pulled a gun on the victim, who was sitting in a car at the drive-through. Dowell forced his way into the victim's car and ordered him to drive around the city before Dowell jumped out of the vehicle and fled.
The same day, Dowell is alleged to have robbed America's Best Value Hotel, 777 Mahoning Ave. According to a police report, Dowell confronted the clerk outside the front door of the lobby, pushed her inside, went through the register and took money.
On his way out of the lobby, the clerk told police, he took off a shoe and struck her over the head. Police arrested him on Porter Street, and the money was recovered.
