Thieves damage cell-phone tower

LIBERTY -- Township police are investigating the damage of 12 cables and theft of a copper ground bar from a cellular phone tower.
Alltel, a cellular and wireless phone company, reported Monday that its cell phone tower at 3737 Logan Gate Road had been vandalized.
Someone, or more than one person, cut through 12 cables in order to steal the copper ground bar, according to police reports.
In order to do so, a tool called a cable lock was used. This tool is common among cell-phone technicians, an Alltel employee told police.
Police found cable locks marked with red-and-white tape at the tower.
The Alltel employee told police that each technician marks his tools with a color code, made of electrical tape, to identify the tools' owner.
The cable locks did not belong to anyone authorized to be at the site, police were told.
