Turkey Trot/Trumbull is successful tradition

Corporate sponsorship and volunteerism have helped keep the event alive.
CHAMPION -- The Warren Kiwanis Club will host its 28th Turkey Trot (5-mile run and 2-mile fun walk/run) Thanksgiving morning (Nov. 23) at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus.
"This is our club's largest fund-raising activity each year," Turkey Trot Chair Greg Yurco said. "The race is a Thanksgiving tradition for many and is the largest such event in the tri-county area. We are very thankful to everyone who has made our 28th year possible."
Run support
Last year, there were more than 1,300 runners with $14,000 raised for charitable donations through participant registration fees and corporate sponsorships.
"We couldn't hope to offer an event of this magnitude without the financial support of a number of corporate sponsors," Yurco said, "and we thank them all for their continuing involvement in the race.
"We're also grateful for the assistance of our many, many volunteers, and our friends at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus. Race Director Ted Rupe is also a key to our success."
"We have a number of families who make this an annual event," Yurco said. "It's an activity that all ages can enjoy -- it promotes good health -- and it raises money for charity. What more could you want on a Thanksgiving morning?"
The two-mile fun run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. and the five-mile race starts at 9:45 a.m. Both races start and finish at the KSU Trumbull Campus. Awards will be presented in the Administration Building (Lecture Hall A) following the conclusion of the races.

Pre-registration fee is $14. Previous participants will receive a registration form in the mail. The fee includes a long-sleeved shirt if paid entry is received by Nov. 18. Race day registrations are an additional $2. There is a limited supply of shirts for race day registrants.
