Reese is standout, Canfield in district



West Branch, Lordstown and Mooney also advanced to district play.
CANFIELD -- Kyle Reese scored three goals and had two assists to lead Canfield over Southeast, 9-0, in a boys Division II sectional soccer tournament game Saturday night.
Nick Benedetto scored two goals for the top-seeded Cardinals, while John Kanotz added one goal and three assists.
Kevin Buck, Donnie Lewis and Mark Hahn each added a goal. Kevin Ricks and Eric Arden had an assist apiece.
Canfield, which plays Champion Wednesday in a district semifinal, had five saves.
Eddie Burke had 10 saves for Southeast.
West Branch 2, Poland 1, SO
BELOIT -- West Branch, the third seed, won on penalty kicks, 4-3, in a sectional final.
Jake Beegle scored for the Warriors in regulation and Clay Bolton had Poland's score.
In the shootout, Clay Criss, Caleb Caprone, Beegle and Tate Drennen scored for the Warriors. Poland's goals came from Brian Gavolas, Ryan Starkel and Taylor Malaniak.
Shane Young had nine saves for West Branch, which plays Salem in a district semifinal Wednesday.
Poland's Thomas Lange had 12 saves.
Lordstown 1, Newton Falls 0
LORDSTOWN -- Julian Acriszewski scored the game's only goal in the 71st minute on a penalty shot to lift the Red Devils in a Div. III sectional final.
Hobie Platt had 10 saves for Lordstown (14-2-1), which will play St. Thomas Tuesday. For Newton Falls (5-7-3), Kurt Ellis had 12 saves.
Mooney 11, Campbell 0
STRUTHERS -- Mooney (13-3-1) won the sectional final to advance to the district semifinals by earning its 11th shutout of the season.
Leading the Cardinals with two goals apiece were Tommie McBride, Hector Hernandez, and Chris Felker, while Dom DiPasquale, Tim Beck, James Simon, Leo Hicks and Matt McWilson each had one. Kyle Buxman, Beck and Hicks each had an assist for Mooney.
Alex Lopez had 10 saves for Campbell (2-15-1).
Mooney plays Crestview Tuesday at Valley Sports at 7 p.m.
