Young writers' workshop
CANTON -- The Greater Canton Writers' Guild is sponsoring "A Creative Writing Workshop for Young Adults (Ages 14-18)" from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Stark County District Library, 715 Market Ave.
During the session, young writers will examine the basic stages in the development of the creative writer, from locating one's own unique subject matter to elements of revision. Participants also will do a variety of writing exercises that exemplify each stage; take paper and pen or pencil. Neil Carpathios will serve as instructor. Carpathios teaches high school English and is also a professor of creative writing at Walsh University in Canton. His work has appeared in various journals, including Poetry, Georgia Review, Southern Review, Mid-American Review, and others. His collections are: I The Father (Millenium Press, 1993), The Weight Of The Heart (Blue Light Press 2000), God's Experiment (The Ledge Press 2000 chapbook award winner), and Greatest Hits (Pudding House Press 2002). Inn 2004 he received an Individual Artist Fellowship in poetry from the Ohio Arts Council. His newest book, "Playground of Flesh," is a full collection of poetry and will be available in December through Main Street Rag press.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY - Earlier this month, publishers and book industry professionals gathered in Frankfurt at the world's largest and most prestigious book fair not only to buy, sell and promote the works of tens of thousands of authors from across the globe, but also to celebrate the newest Guinness World Records in the industry.

Ron Hubbard, author of the best-selling self-help book, "Dianetics" (Bridge Publications), was officially recognized with two Guinness records. With over 1,000 published fiction and non-fiction works that have been translated into 71 languages, Hubbard is both the world's most translated and the most published author. Worldwide the total sales of Hubbard's fiction and non-fiction works has now surpassed 233 million copies internationally.
