Fall Fling flea market
LOWELLVILLE -- The first Fall Fling community indoor/outdoor flea market will be Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lowellville Rod & amp; Gun Club. Ladies and Youth Day
RIMERSBURG, Pa. -- The Oak Ridge Pointing Dog Club will sponsor a Ladies and Youth Day on Sunday at 8 a.m. at the club grounds. Women and youths who participate can experience archery; pistol, rifle and shot gun shooting; and hunting birds with a pointing dog. Preregistration is required. A 5 charge includes lunch. Turkey season
COLUMBUS -- Hunters killed 479 wild turkeys during the first five days of Ohio's fall wild turkey hunting season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The season opened Oct. 14 and will run through Oct. 29.
Last year, hunters killed a total of 475 birds in the same time period.
Wild turkeys can be hunted in 37 counties during the fall season. The archery-only portion of the fall turkey season, introduced in 2002, will begin Oct. 30 and run through Nov. 26. More than 21,000 hunters pursued wild turkeys in Ohio last fall.
Fall wild turkey hunting hours are a half hour before sunrise to sunset. The bag limit is one turkey of either sex per hunter, per season. A fall turkey permit is required in addition to a current Ohio hunting license. All turkeys killed must be taken to an official turkey checking station by 8 p.m. on the day of harvest.
The Division of Wildlife reminds hunters that the season will partially overlap the early muzzleloader deer hunting season (Monday through Saturday) on three state-owned areas: Wildcat Hollow in Perry and Morgan counties, Salt Fork Wildlife Area in Guernsey County and Shawnee State Forest in Scioto County. Turkey hunting will not be allowed on these areas during the muzzleloader deer hunting season.
Waterfowl hunting
Waterfowl hunting is now permitted daily during the legal waterfowl season thanks to a joint effort between the ODNR Division of Parks and Recreation and the ODNR Division of Wildlife. Hunters are required to sign in at the park office on the day of their hunt and specify their chosen blind site. Legal shooting hours (one-half hour before sunrise to sunset) apply.
"This controlled hunting arrangement increases opportunities for sportsmen and sportswomen who are interested in waterfowl hunting on Guilford Lake by offering seven days each week rather than only four days until noon in past years," explained Dan Kramer, wildlife management supervisor for northeast Ohio Division of Wildlife.
Several restrictions still apply such as a limit of 15 nontoxic shells with a shot size of #2 or smaller and a 12-gauge shotgun or smaller. Hunting parties are limited to two hunters and all hunting must take place only from the chosen blind site.
Waterfowl hunting season opens statewide today and closes Dec. 10 in the north zone and Nov. 5 in the south zone. The second portion of waterfowl hunting season runs Dec. 23-31in the north zone and the south zone from Dec. 16 through Jan. 28. Guilford Lake, in Columbiana County, is located in the south zone.

Steelhead seminar
AKRON -- A free, steelhead fly fishing seminar will be held Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wildlife District Three Headquarters, 912 Portage Lakes Drive.
Retired Division of Wildlife fisheries biologist Vince LaConte will be educating attendees on a variety of fly fishing topics such as appropriate clothing to wear while fishing during those cold, winter days, proper gear choice, special fly fishing techniques, and even a segment on fly tying.
Jamey Graham, Wildlife Communication Specialist with the Division of Wildlife, will be providing contact information and other Web-based resources for more information on steelhead fishing in northeast Ohio. Tributary maps and other take-home literature will be distributed.
The seminar will be held at the Wildlife District Three Headquarters on Portage Lakes Drive, east of State Route 93/Manchaster Road and just south of State Route 224. Wetlands Habitat Stamp
COLUMBUS -- The 2007 Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp, depicting the majestic northern pintail duck, marks 25 years of work by the program to conserve waterfowl habitat, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
"By purchasing habitat stamps, Ohio's waterfowl hunters have made great contributions to wetland conservation both in Canada and Ohio. Thousands of acres of waterfowl habitat have been restored or enhanced through the stamp program," said Steven A. Gray, chief of the Division of Wildlife.
To date, 2.8 million has been contributed to wetlands acquisition and preservation in Canada. Additionally, 4.3 million has been used for wetlands enhancement, restoration, management and research in Ohio.
