Howland girls blank Hubbard, 4-0



The Tigers advance to a district tournament game at Boardman Tuesday.
HOWLAND -- Four players scored one goal apiece as the Howland High girls soccer team blanked Hubbard 4-0 in a Division I sectional final Saturday.
Megan Long, Kaylin Hovance, Melissa Kohn and Britany Martorana each scored for the top-seeded Tigers (13-2-3).
Howland has 14 shutouts in 18 games. The Tigers have allowed just six goals this season. Junior Alexa Williams made her first start of the season in goal for Howland and turned away three shots.
Williams was replacing junior Meagan McLaughlin who is out for the rest of the season with an enlarged spleen.
Hubbard (9-7-2) goalies Tina Takash and Tressa Scahill combined for nine saves.
Boardman 3, Louisville 0
LOUISVILLE -- Jamie Avona had one goal and two assists while Chloe Zidian and Courtney Gratz each had one goal to pace Boardman. All three are sophomores.
Boardman (11-5-2) goalie Lani Vlad had two saves and replacement Cheyene Khatib had three saves.
Poland 4, Uniontown Lake 0
POLAND -- Senior forward Maureen Malone and junior forward Kelly Storkel had two goals apiece for the Bulldogs (14-2-2) in a Div. I sectional championship.
Goalies Pam Shure and Erin Eckman had two saves apiece for the Bulldogs, who led 3-0 at halftime. Dani Fleischman had seven stops for Lake (8-6-4).
Ursuline 4, Champion 2
CHAMPION -- Hannah Snyder scored two goals in the final six minutes on assists by Liz Emanuel and Katelyn Tondo-Steele to lift Ursuline in a Div. II sectional final.
Tondo-Steele added a penalty kick goal for the Irish (8-7-2), who will play Lakeview on Monday. Emanuel also had a goal and Snyder had an assist. Jolanta Carkido had seven saves.
For Champion (11-6-1), Beth Sayers had 11 saves as the Flashes were out-shot 25-9. Erika Stevens scored a goal.
BoysMooney 11, Campbell 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Tommie McBride and sophomores Hector Hernandez and Chris Felker each scored two goals for Mooney in a Div. III sectional final.
James Simon, Leo Hicks and Tim Beck each added a goal and an assist for the Cardinals (13-3-1), who held a 9-0 halftime lead. Dom DiPasquale and Matt McWilson added goals and Rob Fox, Kyle Buxman and Thomas Beck had assists. Brandon Fotiuk had Mooney's only save.
Alex Lopez had 10 saves for Campbell (2-15-1).
Crestview 2, Bristol 0
COLUMBIANA -- Greg Bing and Mitchell See each scored a goal and Wendy Twaddle had an assist for Crestview (14-2-1).
Ursuline 10, East Palestine 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Seniors Justin Mihaly and Vlad Lungu had three goals apiece, while Giovanni Borgia, Nick Clowes, Corey Mihaly and Kevin Patrick had one goal apiece in a Div. III sectional final.
Borgia, Corey and Clowes are also seniors, while Patrick is a sophomore. Ursuline's halftime lead was 3-0.
Ursuline's John Colla had two saves, while Chad Campagna had 17 saves for East Palestine. The Irish play in a district semifinal on Tuesday against the Badger-JFK winner.
