Annual Red Mass gathers judicial, legal professionals
The luncheon speaker is a nun and lawyer.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 10th annual Red Mass, a traditional celebration for those who serve in the judicial and legal professions, will be at 12:10 p.m. Friday in St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.
Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, administrator of the Diocese of Youngstown, will be the main celebrant and homilist.
The Red Mass is intended to bring together members of the bench and bar in prayerful communion for guidance, strength and recommitment to the highest principles of the legal profession for the benefit of all citizens of the community.
After the Mass, a luncheon will be in the church hall.
Sister Melanie DiPietro, founder and co-chairwoman of the CARTA group, which concentrates on religiously affiliated corporations, and a practitioner in residence at Seton Hall Law School in New Jersey, will be the speaker for the luncheon presentation.
Background
Sister Melanie earned her law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and completed the executive management program of the United Way, National Academy for Volunteerism, Harvard Graduate School of Business.
She also completed the Harvard Negotiation Program.
She received her licentiate and doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome.
Memberships
Sister Melanie is a member of the American Law Institute and a member of the Board of Governors of the Canon Law Society of America.
She holds memberships on numerous other boards and is an author and national and international speaker.
All those involved in the legal profession in Northeast Ohio are welcome to attend.
