Poland shuts down Liberty



Hubbard's Alex Chick set a school record for assists in a season with 16.
POLAND -- Blake Rhein, Brian Witt and Jeremy O'Halloran each scored a goal as the Poland High boys soccer team defeated Liberty, 3-0, Wednesday in a Division II tournament game.
Brad Mullis had an assist for the Bulldogs (8-4-5).
Hubbard 3, Niles 0
HUBBARD -- Anthony Greco scored two goals and R.J. Lee netted the other for the Eagles (9-6-2).
Earning assists were Lee, Gustavo Menezes and Alex Chick, who set the school's record for assists in a season (16). Goalkeeper Galen Hayek made 11 saves.
Niles goalkeeper Ryan Gregory made nine saves.
Hubbard advances to play at Champion on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Crestview 3, Mathews 1
NEW WATERFORD -- Greg Bing scored a goal and had an assist for the Rebels (13-2-1). Austin Elwonger and Aaron Stewart each scored a goal. Justin Kleinknecht and Nicholas Magill had an assist apiece.
Jake Klinger scored the goal for the Mustangs.
Newton Falls 6, Garfield 0
NEWTON FALLS -- Juniors Bob Crislip, Steven Lyden, Eric Terwilliger and Josh Banyas and seniors Andrea Baccarini and Payson Cowie had the goals for Newton Falls .
Baccarini is an exchange student from Italy.
Crislip, Cowie, Mike Layshock and Richie Peterson had assists for the Tigers (5-9-3).
Garfield's Andy Geber had eight saves, while backup Greg Schear had one stop for the G-Men. Senior Kurt Ellis had seven saves for Newton Falls, which plays Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lordstown.
Campbell 4, South Range 2
AUSTINTOWN -- Sophomore Nico Magnolia had two goals, while freshmen Nate Dawson and Mike Lopez had single goals for the Red Devils in a Div. III game.
Campbell posted a 3-0 lead at halftime, then added another goal for a 4-0 cushion. Junior Daniel Sacui had an assist when his corner kick was headed in by Magnolia.
Mark Johnson and Steve Humansky had the points for South Range.
Campbell goalie Alex Lopez had 10 saves, while South Range's keeper had six stops.
On Saturday, Campbell plays Cardinal Mooney at Valley Sports.
Ursuline 10, East Liverpool Christian 0
STRUTHERS -- Justin Mihaly, Nick Clowes and Giovanni Borgia scored two goals apiece for the Irish in the Div. III first-round tournament game at the Valley Sports Complex.
Corey Mihaly, James Hagan, Adam Dickson and Josh Sikich each added a goal.
Corey Mihaly and Kevin Patrick had three assists apiece and Sikich had one.
Ursuline had 22 shots on goal. East Liverpool Christian managed one shot and its goalkeeper Chas Keglor made 12 saves.
Ursuline will play East Palestine Saturday at 3 p.m. at Valley Sports.
