Filing missed deadline, Columbiana Co. board says

LISBON -- The Columbiana County Board of Elections on Tuesday told a Boardman man that his complaint about Democrat congressional candidate Charlie Wilson was filed, "about seven months past the filing deadline."
John S. Luchansky of Boardman, who ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for 6th District Congress, filed a complaint with the board this week claiming that Wilson should be disqualified from the upcoming election. Wilson failed to get enough valid signatures for the primary, then won as a write-in candidate. He is running against Republican Chuck Blasdel for the 6th District seat.
In a hand-lettered complaint on lined paper, Luchansky questioned Wilson's mental state on the grounds he signed election documents saying he was qualified to run for office when he could not get the 50 signatures. Luchansky now wants a special election to determine the Democratic candidate.
The election board's letter said the deadline for such complaints was March 20. The board said it would talk to its attorney.
The board decided to do nothing when Luchansky filed a similar complaint against fellow Democrat Bob Carr of Wellsville before the primary.
