BOARDMAN -- Township trustees have picked the six police chief candidates they want to interview in person.
Jason Loree, township administrator, expects interviews to begin next week. Selection of the six follows telephone interviews of 12 applicants. Fifty-eight people had applied for the job.
The finalists:
Patrick Berarducci of Medina, an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
John Bonnevier of Ormond Beach, Fla., a district commander of a sheriff's office in Florida.
James M. Lewandowski of Boardman, a Mahoning County Sheriff's Department captain.
Mark A. Machan of Milford, Ohio, chief of the Milford Police Department.
David C. Morris of Pasadena, Md., a major with the Prince Georges County (Maryland) police department.
Jerre Patterson of Boardman, acting township chief and with the department since 1974.
Loree said that he was trying to reach Bonnevier to determine if he is still interested in the position.
The list was narrowed after a meeting last week of trustees and members of the committee appointed to help with the search.
Loree said he would like to hire an assessment center to provide more information about the candidates. He plans to make that suggestion at next week's trustees meeting.
The center would work to simulate a day in the chief's job for the candidates and then assess each person's management or administrative style, Loree said.
