RALLYING THE TROOPS: Here's the CliffsNotes on last weekend's appearance by U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton at Austintown Fitch High School on behalf of U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown, the Democratic challenger to U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine:
Clinton is a very polished public speaker, but wasn't enough of a draw to fill the 1,500-seat auditorium.
One of the auditorium curtains fell when actors Luke Perry and Adam Brody arrived on stage. A few seconds later, there was a crashing sound, like broken glass, on the right side of the stage. The curtain then went up. Keeping his cool, Perry said it wasn't his fault.
Many females under the age of 21 in the audience screamed when Brody, who is on the Fox television show, "The O.C," started to speak. I was pleased to see that skinny guys with messy hair still appeal to the ladies.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan is a rising star, according to Clinton. State Rep. John Boccieri is a rising star, according to me. He gave the best speech at the rally.
