Home Savings gives to food bank

YOUNGSTOWN -- Home Savings has donated 20,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank for capital improvements to its facility located at 2805 Salt Springs Road.
Also, in cooperation with Clear Channel Communications, Home Savings recently sponsored a performance of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Chevrolet Center, and donated 1 to Second Harvest for each of the 5,862 tickets sold for the event.
"We are pleased to be able to continue providing funding to Second Harvest Food Bank and fully support its mission of feeding hungry people in our community," said Darlene Pavlock, executive director of the Home Savings Charitable Foundation.
Capital improvements made with the 20,000 donation will include adding three overhead screen doors at the dock doors in the warehouse, which will provide proper ventilation and ensure food safety.
"We could not do what we do without the support of wonderful friends like Home Savings. These donations will go a long way in helping us maintain our facility and feed hungry families in our community," said Michael Iberis, executive director of the Food Bank.
Second Harvest distributes 20,000 pounds of food daily to some 170 hunger relief organizations, including church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and shelters for battered women in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, Iberis said.
