Mt. Union has easy time 86-43

ALLIANCE -- Hot-shooting Mount Union had an easy time of it Monday, routing visiting Franciscan College, 86-43, in a non-conference men's college basketball game.
The Purple Raiders (2-1) shot 59.6 percent from the floor (31-of-52) and led 44-13 at halftime. Chris Swizter led Mount Union with 17 points, while Jay Mathis added 13 and Steven Shepherd had 12. Eric Fender (Poland) tossed in 10 points and had three assists.
Dan Johnson led Franciscan (2-6) with 16 points.
Ashland 97, Slippery Rock 71
ASHLAND -- Rob McRae led six Ashland players scoring in double figures, as the Eagles kept Slippery Rock winless.
McRae scored 17 points, while Brett Bartlett and Steve Gansey scored 16 apiece for Ashland (4-2), which shot 56 percent from the floor in bolting to a 51-39 halftime lead.
Kenny Smith had 18 points and Jamar Scales added 15 for The Rock (0-3). Rashiid Coleman finished with 10 points, while Glenn Reepmeyer had seven rebounds. Scales also had five assists. Slippery Rock shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor and forced 22 turnovers, but was out-rebounded, 45-25.
Greg Emmons had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Ashland.
Women
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Amber Bodrick (Mooney) scored 30 points to lead Thiel past Chatham, 70-54, Monday night.
Bodrick was 12-for-20 from the floor and added a team-high eigh rebounds and four assists for the Tomcats (3-2). Nicole Valentino (Sharon) added 17 points for Thiel, while Jena Cook scored 10.
Dannielle Pais, Amanda Vranka and Brittany Brown all scored 12 points for Chatham (0-4), while Allason Holt scored 10.
Gannon 71, Slippery Rock 64
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Amanda Nero (Lowellville) scored 11 points and had a team-high seven rebounds for The Rock (1-2).
Chere' Marshall (Hickory) led Slippery Rock with 14 points and Nijha McNeely added 12.
Christina Jackson paced Gannon (1-1) with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Casey England added 13 points for Gannon, which led 26-19 at halftime.
