Capri and Charlie's son get Senate posts

Senate Democratic leaders at noon made their choices for the 30th and the 32nd Ohio Senate Districts.

Capri Cafaro of Liberty, who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House this year and in 2004, was chosen for the seat being vacated by Marc Dann, Ohio’s attorney general-elect.

The 32nd District includes all of Trumbull and Ashtabula counties. others who sought the appointment were state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th; and ex-state Sen. Anthony A. Latell Jr. of Girard, who also served in the Ohio House and as a Trumbull County commissioner, Girard council president and city councilman.

Jason Wilson of Sunset Heights was tabbed to replace Charlie Wilson in the 30th Ohio Senate District, which includes Columbiana County. Jason Wilson is Charlie Wilson’s son.

The senior Wilson, of St. Clairsville, was elected earlier this month to represent the 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House, a seat currently held by Ohio Gov.-elect Ted Strickland of Lisbon.

Also seeking the appointment were Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas, a former St. Clairsville law director and councilman; and state Rep. John Domenick of Smithfield, D-95th, recently elected to his third two-year term in the House.
