One dead in I-80 crash

LIBERTY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators are trying to determine what led to a traffic accident that took one man’s life and sent three other family members to the hospital.

Liberty Police Chief Anthony Slifka said a Dodge van was traveling east on Interstate 80 around 1:43 p.m. Monday when the vehicle swerved into the left guardrail, then crossed several lanes and hit the guardrail on the opposite side and rolled down an embankment.

Slifka said one man was thrown from the vehicle and died on impact. He said the man appeared to have massive trauma to his head.

OSHP's Warren Post said Thomas Grisham, 60, of Kane, Pa., died at the scene. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his wife, Sandra Grisham, 60.

She, her son, Andrew, 17, and father-in-law, George J. Grisham of Bradford, Pa., age unknown, were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, a hospital supervisor said.

The patrol said all occupants but Thomas Grisham were wearing seat belts.

No other information was available tonight from the patrol.

Slifka said the driver of the van told paramedics and authorities immediately after the accident that she is diabetic and her insulin level was low.
