Sterling's 32 lead Westminster win



The senior from Newton Falls enjoyed a career-high output for the Titans.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Desiree Sterling, a Newton Falls High graduate, scored a career-high 32 points as the senior standout led the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 58-53 win over the College of Wooster Saturday.
The Titans (2-2) trailed 49-46 with four minutes remaining, but Nicole Fee's 17-foot jumper with 1:26 to go gave Westminster a 54-51 lead. Talley Felger (Springfield) scored with 24 seconds remaining to make it 57-53.
Felger (Neshannock) had 10 rebounds for the Titans.
Allegheny 48, Mount Union 42
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Mount Union College women's basketball team won the first half, but what counted most was Allegheny College's rally in the second half that led to the comeback victory Saturday at the David V. Wise Center.
In losing for the first time this season, the Purple Raiders (3-1) led 30-23 at the intermission, but Allegheny outscored Mount Union 25-12 in the second half.
Meghan Simons paced the Purple Raiders with 11 points, while Katie Kestler led Allegheny with 18.
Carlow 71, Hiram 65
PEPPER PIKE -- Cassie Bedard scored 20 points in a losing cause for the Terriers in a overtime contest at the Ursuline College tournament.
The game was tied 60-60 at the end of regulation play. The Celtics then rushed out to a 8-1 run to start overtime and Hiram couldn't recover.
Tania Camen added 14 points for the Terriers. She grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists.
Geneva 71, St. Vincent 55
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Allyson Clarke scored 23 points and she had 13 rebounds in leading Geneva College to victory in the Golden Tornadoes home opener. Geneva has had its problems with St. Vincent over the years, recording just its 10th win in 53 times in the all-time series between the schools.
Carnegie Mellon 78, Thiel 54
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Thiel (2-2), behind 52-25 with 16 minutes, 26 seconds remaining, went on a 24-6 run to cut the lead to 58-46.
Sophomore forward Amber Bodrick, a Cardinal Mooney High graduate, scored 12 of her team-high 18 points during the surge. She had seven rebounds and three steals.

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Kyle McDermott, who scored his 1,000th career point Friday, was 9-for-9 from the field as he scored 22 points leading the Geneva men's basketball team to a 124-63 victory over Indiana University-East. Every player on the Geneva roster scored, including Greg McDivitt, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

CANTON -- Leading 55-48 at Intermission, Malone broke away with a 60-44 surge in the second half to prevail. Malone was sparked by Jimmy Wooten with 37 points and seven rebounds. Akeem Scott added 22 points and Daniel Provett had 10.
