Poor shooting dooms Penguins in 96-49 loss

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team was held to just 30 percent shooting in a 96-49 loss to Duquesne Saturday in the consolation game of the UNC-Wilmington Hilton Wilmington Riverside Beach Classic.
Sophomore Monique Godfrey led the Penguins (1-4) with 10 points, while and freshman Ta-myra Davis had a game-high nine rebounds.
But Youngstown State was hampered by 19-for-63 shooting and 26 turnovers. The Penguins trailed 41-27 at halftime -- Duquesne went on an 18-6 run to close the half -- and made only 9-of-34 shots in the second half.
The Dukes (3-2) turned those 26 YSU turnovers into 35 points. In contrast, the Penguins managed just seven points off Duquesne's 10 miscues.
Duquesne opened the second half with a 27-3 run -- that made it a 45-9 rally over a span of just under 14 1/2 minutes -- to expand its lead to 68-30 with 10:54 remaining in the game.
The Dukes had five players in double figures, led by Carmen Bruce and Keri Pryor with 16 points each. Loui Hall added 12 points and Kristi Little and Gosia Flaga each scored 11 points.
