McClain 50th is observed at family dinner



YOUNGSTOWN -- The 50th anniversary of their wedding was observed by Mr. and Mrs. Dean McClain, 521 Westgate Blvd., on Nov. 25 during a family dinner held at Johnny's Restaurant, Boardman.
Invitations for the celebration were extended by family members Tammy and Dale Basista and Scott and Stacey McClain, all of Austintown. Completing the family are another son and his wife, Dean and Beverly McClain Jr. of College Station, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mahoning Methodist Church was the setting Nov. 30, 1956, as the former Carol Streitferdt and Mr. McClain were united in marriage.
Mrs. McClain was a teacher in the primary grades at Jackson-Milton Local School, North Jackson, prior to retiring in 1993. She is a member of Mahoning United Methodist Church and its W.I.G.S. group, a past president of Mahoning County Republican Women and a member of Mahoning County Retired Teacher and local senior citizens card clubs.
Mr. McClain served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was employed 20 years with Conrail and was self-employed at McClain Railroad Jewelers until retiring in 2002.
He is the national director and Local 137 president of the Korean War Veterans Association; a commissioner with Mahoning County Veterans Service; a past commander with the United Veterans Council and a VA Clinic volunteer; past president of the Mahoning Veterans Memorial at Canfield Fairgrounds; past commander of AMVETS 19th District from Post 44; adjutant with American Legion Post 15; a member of VFW Post 9947, Poland Masonic Lodge 766 and Valley of Youngstown 32nd Degree; past president of Austintown Men Democrat Club; and an associate member of ITAM 3, Marine Corps League and Army Navy Union 422.
