Junior women's league books project

The project will help parents develop literacy activities with their babies.
CANFIELD -- The Junior Women's League of Canfield has formed a partnership with the CareNet Pregnancy Center of Mahoning Valley to make an informational and educational program available to new mothers in the area.
The league is attempting to raise 1,000, which will enable it to donate 125 "Books for Babies" kits to pregnant women and new mothers, along with layettes provided by CareNet.
"Books for Babies" is a national literacy program that acquaints parents of newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children. Each kit will contain a board book, baby's first library card and brochures with reading tips for parents and caregivers.
Other groups may supplement the packets with information about local resources, including library locations and contact information as well as details about lapsit and preschool story hours.
Helping hands
Seventh-grade girls at Western Reserve Middle School are assisting with the fundraising project by raising funds and donating other items to CareNet.
Donations for the project should be mailed to Junior Women's League of Canfield, Attn.: Books for Babies, P.O. Box 143, Canfield, OH 44406, or they can be made at the league's table at the Canfield Craft Show on Saturday at the Canfield High School.
