Phantoms streak into Marquette tonight
Mahoning Valley is on a nine-game winning streak.
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning Valley Phantoms, fresh from a nine-game winning streak, spent Thanksgiving in Michigan as they headed to Marquette for a three-game series against the Rangers this weekend.
Game time tonight and Saturday is at 7 p.m. Sunday's matinee will begin at 1 p.m. All three games will be webcast on www.mvpphantoms.com.
The Phantoms (15-7-1) visit Marquette for the first time in team history, playing in the 3,100-seat Lakeview Arena.
Marquette (9-11-2) is winless in its last six games (0-5-1). Two weekends ago, the team was swept by the Phantoms at the Ice Zone by scores of 5-0, 7-2 and 6-1.
"We will see a different Marquette team this weekend than the one we faced at home," Phantom coach Bob Mainhardt said. "Given what happened then and with us making our first visit to Lakeview Arena, preparation is vital to our success this weekend."
Longpre on streak
Right wing Nathan Longpre will look to extend his personal nine-game assist and point scoring streaks on Friday. Over that span, he has registered 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. Longpre's assist streak is a season-high in the North American Hockey League.
Two other Phantoms have active point streaks going into the weekend. Center Derek Graham has recorded an assist in each of his last four contests. Left wing Miles Winter has scored a goal in three consecutive games.
Defensively, the Phantoms have allowed two or fewer goals in each of their last seven games. By contrast, the Phantoms allowed at least four or more goals in each of their first seven games this season.
"When everyone contributes, everyone wins," said Chris Fairbanks, captain and right wing. "We're getting contributions from every player in every zone. That's why we're winning."
The Phantoms will return home next weekend to host the U.S. National Team on Dec. 1-2 at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Tickets are available by calling (330) 965-7500.
